Veteran riders

There are lots of people who began riding when young and have just continued. For them, riding when they're older isn't a problem. It's just what they do, what they've always done, and they have the skills and know what they're doing.

Then there are returner riders, who may have ridden when they were young, but now, with time on their hands, and spare cash, want to go riding again.
If this is you, I know what will be uppermost in your mind.
Is it safe?
Things that seemed ok and you didn't give a second thought to when you were a teenager, suddenly turn into huge mountains to climb now you're older. Of course, wisdon comes with age.
Take hacking out. What used to be an exciting blast of adrenalin, suddenly becomes fraught with hidden dangers, and all the 'what ifs' suddenly become the only thing you can think about. What if she spooks? What if she runs away with me? What if I fall off? Yes, you can Ride out with confidence!
Well, being older might make you more aware of your own mortality, but just remember to hold on to that wisdom that comes with it too. Like anyone else, new or returning to horses, take it slowly, one step at a time.
So can you learn to ride a horse when you are over fifty? Yes you can!
