Hello!

I'm Linda, and this is my website about keeping and riding a horse of your own, jodders.co.uk.  I hope you're learning all about horses, and have added my site to your favourites.

Why this site?

When I was a teenager, (many years ago!), I had a few riding lessons, and because I lived on a farm, I had a 'rescue' horse.  To be honest, at that time, he was'nt really my dream horse.  This poor horse spent much of it's time in the field with the cows, not doing a lot, because although I loved horses, I didn't know much about them and there weren't many places then to find out.  When I tried to ride him, he just wouldn't go, and because I thought the only way to make a horse go was to kick him, I soon became exhauseted and frustrated.

Three years ago, my daughter dared me to have a riding lesson with one of her horsey friends.  What a fateful day that was!  I was so scared just sitting on that horse, the ground seemed to be spinning around me.  Hyperventilation, of course!  Anyway, I had my lesson, then another, and another, until I was cheerfully hacking out along tracks and bridle paths.  Somehow, after all these years, my dream had become real.  And I was hooked on horses.

The journey with my horse begins . . . .

After a year of lesson and hacking, I shared a horse with girl down the local yard where I rode.  Then, on my 50th birthday, I took the plunge and bought the horse, Lily.  She's not very big, mostly quiet, but occasionally marish.  And of course I've had a problem or two, well, maybe three or four.

Since then, horses, have taken over my life.  I have become passionate about learning how to look after her, and how to ride in a way that is safe.  Most importantly, I have become more active and fitter than I have ever been in my life!

Learning and Riding, Riding and Learning.

Starting from scratch can be hard.  There are lots of other sites and magazines that either assume a certain level of knowlegde, or that you want to compete.  Of course it's fine to compete at eventing, showjumping or dressage if that's what you really want to do, and you have the right level of skills.

Somehow, I don't think I'll ever compete.  But I do want to find out as much as I can about horses, learn about different riding styles, and improve my riding.  Because whatever level you're at, your riding can always get better, which means that your enjoyment gets better too.  And at the heart of good riding is understanding your horse and just why she does what she does.

This site is for people who may be just starting out, may be confused by all the jargon and equipment, who want to ride competantly and safely, just because it's fun.

Thanks for visiting!
