There is nothing more inspiring than attending a horse event. It makes a great day out, and gives you some idea of the direction you want to move it. There are lots of events for inhand showing, where you won't have to ride, but can show off your grooming and your horses attributes. Or you might want to see what dressage or show jumping looks like first hand - either at a beginner or an advanced level.
There are all sorts of courses and talks you can attend to boost your knowledge and confidence.
